Vegetarian Dogs

Many years ago, there was an advertisement in the PETA magazine for a vegetarian dog food.  Vegetarian, because “dogs were never meant to eat meat”.  That was when I realized those people were crazy and left the animal rights movement.  I find the same sort of insanity on the other side of the railroad tracks.  The raw feeding info I’ve come across predominately says that dogs are domesticated wolves [ed: agreed] and as such only eat meat.  I don’t agree with that.

When Jasmine was about a year old I bought a pear tree with a couple of pears already on it.  She pulled one of the pears off the tree and ate most of it.

All of this comes to mind because Sadie brought a pear home tonight.  I don’t know where she went off to, but when she came back she was carrying a pear in her mouth.  How funny!  She went off adventuring and decided to bring a pear back with her, across all that distance. A pear?!

Jasmine was very interested in the pear.  I didn’t want there to be a fight so I put Scotty and Jasmine into my room while Sadie ate it.  There were only crumbs left when she was done.

Dogs can taste sweet.  If they’re kin to wolves then it’s a good bet that wolves taste sweet too.  Pecans are sweet, so is some grass and different fruits.  That makes it obvious to me that wolves seek out and eat vegetable matter.  Even carnivores like a good salad.
