I’m watching the movie Noah right now. It’s entertaining enough, but really?
Judeo-Christian mythology is deus ex machina in its purest form.
For the sake of argument, let’s leave the jews out of this. They’re a tiny percentage of the world population. So what if their tribal god and the related mythology is a bit psychotic? The bigger question is why the rest of the world is adopting such a stupid religious outlook.
Christians and Muslims account for over 60% of the world population, and both those religions seem to be spreading. Is it because they appeal to the lack of imagination that most people have? Which requires more imagination — the idea that there were ancestors who had super powers or the idea that there were ancestors whom luck favored?
Maybe. But I think it’s mostly due to the willingness of both cults to torture and/or kill those who won’t conform or submit.
Why do people believe in Jesus Christ but not in Santa Claus? Wouldn’t we be better off scrapping Jesus and worshipping Santa instead? After all, Santa brings us nice presents when we’re good. Jesus only promises us something nice after we’re dead.
