13.0.8.13.1 – Catching Up
It’s been a rough year or so. There was the craziness of the coof and its fallout in 2020. 2021 didn’t start out much better what with the deep freeze and all. That freeze killed all of the fruit trees I planted except one fig and two grape vines. I’m amazed by the grape vines.…

This week in review
Sadie and Jasmine got into a fight on Thursday. I got home Thursday night to chaos. I’m not sure which I noticed first, the items scattered over the floor or that my dogs weren’t exuberant at the door. Sadie came hesitantly over to me and Jasmine, covered in dried blood, looked up miserably from her…

13.0.3.0.3 (9 Dec 2015)
That damned bobcat… I thought I would get home tonight before he showed up again. Another 4 chickens dead tonight. Bob the rooster was one of them. I hope he died fighting valiantly. I’m going to have to keep the birds cooped 24/7 until I can get the automatic door installed this coming weekend.

Bantam Chick Update
The bantam chick is dead. A snake got into the coop. It wasn’t Big Black rat snake; he’s too big to have gotten in. I suspect it was the smallish snake I saw by the coop the other night. That makes it 2 for 2. Both chicks have lived about a week then died.

Farm Life — Aug 12
The other day the guineas got out of their pen. There were 6 that night. The next morning there were 3. I thought it was because the door between the run and the yard was closed. Maybe that’s why they couldn’t find their way back into the coop? So I started to leave it open.…

Just Desserts?
I went to gather eggs tonight and there was only one in the box. And it was a real egg. I had put 2 fake eggs in the box to encourage the hens to lay there and both of those fake eggs are mia. I hope it wasn’t Sadie. And if it was her, I hope…

Chickens
Fuck. I found a dead Cochin pullet in the run just now. It looked like it had been pecked to death. What do I do now? It wasn’t one of the other pullets that killed it. It was one of the adult chickens. Was it one of the roosters? Was it one of the hens?…

Solstice 2014
Well fuck. Where to begin? I’ll start with the moment and work backwards. I took the truck to run some errands. Fifteen miles later I looked at the gauges and the oil pressure gauge was between the “n” of “normal” and the low mark. As I watched, it continued to move towards the L. I…

Snakes in the Chicken Pen
I just found the fourth fifth snake in the chicken pen tonight. Hard to tell how long it was because it was coiled up in one of the nest boxes, but I’d guess around 2 feet. I’m not sure what species of snake. It was a dark olivish green with black blotches. The belly was…
